Lakers finish third at USCAA tournament

The Wright State University-Lake Campus women's volleyball team finished fourth at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II national tournament held last weekend at Penn State Fayette in Lemont Furnace.

The Lakers, which entered the six-team tournament at 10-9, went 1-1 in Pool A with the two top teams advancing to the national semifinals. The Lake Campus lost to Cincinnati-Clermont 13-25, 14-25, 21-25 on Thursday before coming back Friday afternoon to defeating Penn State-Shenango 19-25, 16-25, 26-24, 25-13, 15-7 to secure second place in pool play and advance to face Pool B winner Kent State-Tuscarawas in the national semifinals. The Golden Eagles defeated the Lakers 25-20, 25-9, 20-25, 25-21, putting the Lakers in the third-place match against Penn State-York. The Lions swept the Lakers 25-19, 25-19, 25-22 to take third place.

Celina graduate Brooklyn Bourne recorded 36 kills and 43 digs in the four matches. St. Henry grad Lauren Thieman played in the first three matches, recording 80 assists.

Buccaneers clinch SoCon title

East Tennessee State clinched its eighth Southern Conference regular season championship in a three-set win over The Citadel 25-12, 25-13, 29-27. It's the fourth title for Buccaneers coach Lindsey Devine. The perfect league mark was snapped the following day as Furman defeated ETSU in five sets to move the team to 19-6 and 13-1 in SoCon play.

Senior Whitley Rammel (Fort Recovery) had eight kills and four blocks in the win. Rammel recorded at least three blocks for the 20th match this season. On Saturday, Rammel had 11 kills and six blocks.

ETSU wraps up the regular season this week, hosting UNC-Greensboro on Thursday at Brooks Gymnasium before taking on Wofford on Friday. The SoCon tournament gets underway Nov. 20 in Asheville, North Carolina.

Bobcats make it five straight

St. Thomas (Florida) won its fifth straight Sun Conference regular season title in beating Southeastern in four sets (25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-15) on Saturday at the Fernandez Family Center in Miami Gardens.

The Bobcats head into Friday's Sun Conference semifinals in Miami Gardens at 23-4 and 14-1 in the SC.

Junior setter Payton Bertke (Celina) earned another Sun Conference Setter of the Week honor after recording double-doubles in wins over Ave Maria and Southeastern. Bertke had 29 assists and 11 digs against Ave Maria before dishing out 49 assists and 14 digs against Southeastern.

Oilers on hot streak

Findlay heads into the final week of the regular season having won seven straight matches after a three-set win over Thomas More in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers are 21-3 and lead the G-MAC North Division at 12-1 heading into this week's games against fellow North Division teams Northwood (11-11, 6-7) on Friday and Hillsdale (12-10, 10-3) on Saturday. The Oilers already clinched a playoff seeds for the G-MAC tournament and can clinch a divisional title and possibly hosting the tournament.

Senior Alana Pohlman (Marion Local) had seven kills and three blocks in the win over Thomas More. Junior Jenna Leugers (Coldwater) served up an ace in her one set of action. Sophomore Lilly Barhorst (Minster) did not play in Saturday's match, but had three kills in last Friday's win over Kentucky Wesleyan.

Wildcats in CL semifinals

Indiana Wesleyan, the regular season champions in the Crossroads League reached the league tournament semifinals after sweeping Grace College on Saturday in Marion, Indiana. The two-time defending NAIA national champion Wildcats (25-4, 17-1 CL) hosts Spring Arbor tonight at Luckey Arena. The championship will be Saturday at 3 p.m. back at Luckey Arena.

Junior Allysen Fullenkamp (Fort Recovery) played in one set in Saturday's win. Fullenkamp has appeared in 18 sets this season, recording 15 kills.

Cardinal, Panthers face off Friday

The top two teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference square off on Friday at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, California, as Pittsburgh travels to Stanford. Both teams are 13-1 in the ACC.

Stanford moved to 22-3 on the season after sweeping Duke at Maples on Saturday.

Freshman libero Spencer Etzler had 12 digs, six assists and two aces for the Cardinal against the Blue Devils. Etzler averages 3.91 digs per set with 21 aces.
