Grand Lake Fishing Report
Fishing can make for a busy time
By Matt Tuttle
Good day everyone. I hope everyone is doing well.
Wow, is it me or is this the busiest time of year?
I thought summers were busy, but this time of year in preparation for the holidays is a lot.
So if you are feeling the pressure to perform or meet deadlines, you are not alone. I'm super busy booking guide trips and preparing for the 2026 tournament season. Our season starts in January usually in Florida.
I want to remind you all to take 10 minutes a day and just breathe.
I'm going to spend my time fishing. While out fishing I'm watching wildlife like our beautiful eagles and deer moving around in and around our lake.
I can't count the times I have seen deer swimming across a channel or out in the main lake. It's enough for me to think about besides my huge to do lists for just a moment. Then, I'm back at it.
So take some time to lose yourself in a hobby or out in nature so you can be your whole self while being with family.
So, let's talk fishing.
Plain and simple, they are biting. Just about biting everything you can throw at them. You can catch them off sea walls, boat lifts, stake beds and wood. It hasn't been cold long enough to push them to the center of the channels just yet.
Start your depth at 12 inches deep and work deeper from there. One technique I like to fish this time of year is for perch.
I use my 10-foot Outlaw Crappie Pole with six-pound Slimeline rigged with a 5/8-inch cork with a ice hook or 1/32-ounce hook with a minnow or wax worm.
I find when fishing for perch, they like to have live bait. One year they wanted a half of a minnow before you would get bit. You will want to find the bottom then set your bobber where you would be three-to-five inches off the bottom. Perch tend to stay close in relation to the bottom. This technique will work in channels or out on the main lake.
Get out and enjoy our beautiful Grand Lake.
