Gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected through this afternoon, possibly gusting to 45 mph in a few spots. Wind is expected to decrease overnight but remain relatively strong at 20-25 mph this evening.
Please be aware of these strong winds especially if driving a higher profile vehicle. Secure loose outdoor objects and shore up seasonal decorations if possible.

Werling, Mescher earn top state honors

St. Henry's Charlie Werling (12) earned the state's top offensive honors in Division VII from the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association.

Area football players earned top honors as the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced its All-Ohio honors in Divisions VII and VI on Monday.

Fresh off helping St. Henry win its seventh state title in program history, record-setting quarterback Charlie Werling shared the Division VII Offensive Player of the Year award with Lehman quarterback Turner Lachey. Werling wrapped up his high school football career with three rushing touchdowns, raising his career total to a record 64 touchdowns, and one passing touchdown in the Redskins' 37-3 win over Jeromesville Hillsdale.

Marion Local's Brayden Mescher (5) earned the state's top defensive honors in Division VII from the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association.

Marion Local defensive back Brayden Mescher was the unanimous winner of the Division VII Defensive Player of the Year in helping the Flyers extend their winning streak to 76 games before losing to St. Henry in the regional final.

Werling was joined by St. Henry teammates Jake Schwieterman (offensive line), Owen Zimmerman (defensive line), Anderson Kramer (linebacker) and Jack Huelsman (defensive back) on the first team. Offensive end Brayden Heath earned second team honors while Nick Lefeld and Drew Langenkamp were honorable mention selections.

Mescher was one of four Flyers earning first team honors, joining receiver Cale Nagel, offensive lineman Derek Grieshop and defensive lineman Jacob Muhlenkamp on the top team.

Punter Thomas Winner was a second team selection while running back Kamden Eifert and defensive lineman Oliver Huelsman was a third team selection. Brennen Hess, Nolan Eckstein and Seth Heitkamp earned honorable mention honors.

Fort Recovery placed two players on the third team with running back Reece Wendel and linebacker Breaker Jutte.

New Bremen kicker Aidan Eastham earned third team honors while teammates Gavin Quellhorst, Jacob Kelly and Tommy McNaughton were named to the honorable mention.

Minster's Tyler Bergman and Noah Schwieterman were named to the honorable mention.

Fairport Harding's John Nagle was selected Coach of the Year in Division VII.

In Division VI, Coldwater linebacker Derek Dues and defensive back Nolan Mescher were named to the first team defense. Receivers Cadin Obringer and Caleb Schroer were selected to the third team offense. Kicker Bryce Couchot was an honorable mention selection.

Fellow MAC member Anna had several players earn honors. Receiver Zebadiah Pleiman, defensive lineman Nolan Wilt and linebacker Landon Hewitt were first team honorees. Quarterback Logan Ziegenbusch was a third team offensive selection with defensive lineman Julian Stearns earned first team defensive honors.

Division VI Offensive Player of the Year honors were shared by Kirtland quarterback Jake LaVerde, West Jefferson quarterback Austin Bueschuer, Sherwood Fairview quarterback William Zeedyk and Convoy Crestview running back Braxton Leeth. Colonel Crawford defensive lineman Payne DeGray was named the Defensive Player of the Year while Castalia Margaretta's Gary Quisno was named Coach of the Year.
