Jim's Forever, a Mendon institution, ends ride tomorrow
From staff reports
MENDON - A longstanding institution in Mendon will close at the end of the year, leaving a village with few remaining businesses.
Jim's Forever Inc., formerly Jim's Harley Davidson Sales, a motorcycle shop, announced its upcoming closure on the business' Facebook page.
"After much careful thought and consideration, we are announcing the difficult decision to close both Jim's Forever, Inc. and JM Collectibles," the post reads. "It has been a privilege to serve you. For all the years we've been open, your passion for motorcycles has been the driving force behind everything we do. Thank you for letting us share our love for the (Harley Davidson) brand and lifestyle with so many of you."
The business' final day of operation is Wednesday. The team will contact any customers within the next week about completing projects. The business is not selling individual parts or inventory lots currently, but more information may become available early next year.
"The next few days will be very emotional for our employees, as well as Jim's family and friends," another post reads. "If you would like a souvenir, shirt, or any item in remembrance of Jim and the legacy he built at the Harley dealership, please stop in over the next few days."
Jim Godwin founded the business in 1961. He and his wife, Mary, continued ownership until he died in September and she maintained operations. According to Godwin's obituary, he was a 1954 graduate of Celina High School and served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Battalion. For many years, Jim and Mary Godwin ran a well-known motorcycle swap meet, which brought riders and vendors from near and far.
The business is located at 7172 State Route 707, Mendon.
