ST. HENRY - A local manufacturing company is about to undergo its largest expansion yet, adding 45,000 square feet to its plant and creating five to 10 jobs.

Hi-Tech Wire and Manufacturing announced in a social media post on Thursday that it will soon expand its Ash Street location in St. Henry by 45,000 square feet. The addition will bring its total facility size to 170,000 square feet.

"This will be our biggest expansion at one time," Hi-Tech Wire President Bill Hemmelgarn told The Daily Standard. "(We've been talking about it for the) last six months probably."

Other additions over the years at the Ash Street property include a 30,000-square-foot add-on in 2019, 1,050 square feet added in 2021 and 5,250 square feet added in 2024, according to the county auditor's website.

Bruns Building & Development should start on the latest project this spring and take about four months to complete it, Hemmelgarn said.

Hi-Tech was established in 1987, and employs about 85 people at plants at 812 Ash St. and 631 E. Washington St. in St. Henry.

"This expansion will strengthen our manufacturing capabilities, increases capacity, and positions us to better support our customers well into the future," the company's online announcement states.

The project was needed to take on an "upcoming demand from customers," Hemmelgarn said.

It will result in five to 10 additional positions at the company, he added.

Jobs will be available in all parts of the business: manufacturing operators, skilled trades and office personnel.

Hi-Tech serves as a sort of one-stop manufacturing shop, by providing its customers throughout the country with stamping, robotic welding, CNC machining, laser cutting, wire and conventional EDM, engineering, and tool and die design, its website states.
