A big performance in the final baker game of the day helped Celina win an outright Western Buckeye League girls bowling championship on Thursday as the league tournament was held at Westgate Lanes in Lima.

On the boys side, St. Marys settled for a co-championship as Ottawa-Glandorf won the tournament with regular season champion St. Marys taking second to secure the share.

The Celina and St. Marys girls, whose only league loss came via Celina dueled for the tournament title all day. After the round of three regulation games, the Roughriders had 2,642 pins with Celina at 2,598 heading into the round of six baker games.

The Bulldogs caught the spark early with games of 193-172-225 as St. Marys bowled 179-182-193 to stay head. The Roughriders built the lead with a 183-159 fourth baker game, but Celina roared back with a 197 fifth game while St. Marys bowled a 158 to give the Bulldogs a seven-pin lead heading into the final game. St. Marys bowled a 182, but Celina had its second 200-plus baker game with a 216 to edge the Roughriders by 44 pins with a 3,760-3,719 decision to claim the outright title.

Defiance's Mabel Adams was tournament medalist with a 682 series. Reagan Horine of Van Wert was runner-up with a 597 with St. Marys' Ali Kable taking bronze with a 575.

Celina's Chloe Bruce and Marissa Hole finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with 573 and 562. St. Marys' Kalleigh Caywood was seventh with a 543 with teammate Kallie McKinley.

The boys' tournament was also a two-horse race as St. Marys, 9-0 in league matches, and Ottawa-Glandorf, 8-1 with the only loss coming to the Roughriders, battled. The Titans led 3,061-2,933 after regulation games, then the two teams battled through the bakers. After the final pin dropped, O-G won with a final tally of 4,181. St. Marys was second at 4,010, securing the co-championship with the Titans.

Celina, tied for third in the regular season, finished third in the tournament with a final score of 3,939.

The Titans swept the top two spots in the individual standings as Aiden Ruhe bowled a 692 series with Dawson Boninsenga adding a 629. Kenton's Eban Albert was third with a 627. St. Marys' Cadyn Neargardner was fifth with a 624 series. Celina's Austin Novitzke rolled a 609 to finish ninth with Bulldog Mason Posada just missing the top 10 with a 604 to place 11th.

Due to outstanding league matches to be played, the All-WBL honors, based on regular season and tournament performances, will be released at a later date.
