New Bremen's Lucy Homan, seated center, will attend Wilmington College and swim for the Quakers.
NEW BREMEN - After a successful swimming career at New Bremen, Lucy Homan officially signed with Wilmington College Wednesday and will swim for the Quakers next year.
"It felt like home to me," Homan said of Wilmington. "They're all one big family, so I want to go into that like I had in high school."
Homan finished last season with a 27th place finish in the 100 meter butterfly at the Division II state swim meet. At districts, she finished inside the top 20 in the 200 IM and was a part of the 400 freestyle relay team that finished 14th.
"I want to continue the work ethic and all the hard work I put in and just continue to move that into my future career," Homan said.
The Quakers compete at the NCAA Division III level, and are a part of the Ohio Athletic Conference. They recently wrapped up a 1-6 season, but first-year head coach Michael Branch will look to get the program back on track. His resume includes stops as an assistant at Chowan University in North Carolina and Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. Branch was also a part of the Wittenberg University program in Springfield, along with coaching high schools and club programs.
"The MAC and our area is really competitive for swimming, so moving over, the college competition won't stay the same but it'll be good competition for me," Homan said.
Homan will look to study agriculture business in school, but future plans are still undecided.
"I like Wilmington for the school. I like how they have a good agriculture program and it's a nice place to continue my swimming career outside of high school," she said.
