Lester George
Lester L. "Fat" George, 83, Versailles, died at 12:59 p.m. March 9, 2007, at Wayne Hospital, Greenville.
He was born June 29, 1923, in Darke County, to Charles Joseph and Mary Catherine Chappie George. On Aug. 6, 1949, he married Margine Elizabeth Leugers, who died June 24, 1985.
Surviving are a brother, Marion (Vernedia), Greenville; and four sisters, Frances Monnin Holscher, Osgood, Rose Mary Kinninger, Sidney, Bertha (Arthur) Bruening, Yorkshire, Virginia Roll, North Star, and Juanita George, New Paris.
Deceased are four brothers, Earl, Kenneth, John L., and Edward Lee; and four sisters, Louella, Eleanor Werling, Leoma McEldowney, and Ruth Petitjean Thiebeau.
He retired as a farmer and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and American Legion Post 174, both of North Star.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, and 9-10 a.m. at the church.
