Terrance Joseph Padden, 57, of Rockford, died May 1, 2007, of a cardiac arrest that led to a traffic accident in Mason City, Iowa.

He was born July 11, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Ambrose William and Edna Elsenpeter Padden. On June 5, 1971, he married Mary Anne Schafer, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Sean (Nicole) of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Stephen of Cass City, Mich.; two brothers, Daniel of Minneapolis, Minn., and Timothy (Barb) of Racine, Wis.; a sister, Jane (Robert) Pearlman, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A sister-in-law, Patricia Padden, is deceased.

The former CEO of Mercer Health in Coldwater, he had worked as a hospital administrator in Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota, Washington, Oklahoma, Virginia and Nebraska. He was hired as CEO at Howard County Hospital in Cresco, Iowa, less than three weeks ago.

He had worked with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus. He attended Campion Jesuit High in Wisconsin, had a bachelor's degree in nursing from Creighton University, Nebraska, and a master's in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota. He was a veteran of the Army Nurse Corps.

Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, the Rev. Tom Brenberger officiating.

Calling is 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
