Man charged with murder of rural Fort Recovery resident in Dayton
A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder in the shooting death of Fort Recovery resident Frank Steinbrunner, says Dayton Homicide Sgt. Gary White.
Andre C. Williamson was arrested on a warrant for armed robbery on Tuesday by U.S Marshall officers and a fugitive task force, White said. After questioning the suspect and meeting with Montgomery County prosecutors on Wednesday, the suspect was charged with aggravated murder in Steinbrunner's death, which was ruled a homicide on Tuesday by the Montgomery County coroner.
In addition to the aggravated murder charge, Williamson also was charged with aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, shooting across a roadway and one other felony, White said.
The 29-year-old Steinbrunner, who had lived along Sawmill Road in rural Fort Recovery, died at 2:22 a.m. Nov. 2 in Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, from a gunshot wound inflicted during a drug deal gone wrong in Dayton on Oct. 13.
According to police reports, Steinbrunner drove to an unknown location on West Third Street trying to purchase drugs when he and his passenger, Charles Banks, also of Mercer County, were both shot in their lower abdomens around 12:50 p.m. Oct. 13.
Dayton Police Lieutenant John Huber said it appeared to be a drug-deal gone wrong. He also said Steinbrunner was unresponsive when police arrived on the scene.
Steinbrunner was taken into surgery at a Dayton hospital, and Banks, who suffered less serious injuries, provided police officers with information on the shooting and admitted to being shot while attempting to purchase drugs.
