Emergency personnel assist at a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U. S. 127 and state Route 219 that occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. According to a report from the Mercer County Sheriff's office, Sandra K. Ayers, 48, Coldwater, was traveling west on 219 and failed to yield at a red light. The Jeep she was driving was hit by a southbound Mack semi driven by Jason L. Shaffer, 33, of New Paris. Upon impact, Ayers' Jeep spun, struck a traffic control box and she was ejected from the vehicle. Ayers was first transported to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, then to Miami Valley Hospital by air ambulance, where she was listed in serious condition yesterday. Shaffer claimed possible injuries but refused treatment at the scene.
