Marcella Jones
Marcella "Sally" Kantner Jones, 85, of Indianapolis, Ind., died at 4:39 p.m. July 7, 2008, at Community East Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born Feb. 11, 1923, in St. Henry, to Joseph and Elizabeth Boehmer Uhlenhake. Her first husband, John H. Kantner and her second husband, Marvin E. Jones are deceased.
Survivors are a son, John (Donna) Kantner; seven daughters, Pamela Kantner, Cynthia (Chuck) Eckert, Katherine Kantner, Deborah Pearlman, Geri Pearson, Mary (Jerry) Zimmerman and Julia Kantner; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Teresa Ann Kantner; two brothers, Bernard and Harold; four sisters, Edna Mader, Alice Bennett, Betty Mader and Addie Delzeith.
She worked as a staff and surgical nurse for over 55 years in various hospitals in Indianapolis. She was a 1946 graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Dayton; acquired post graduate training in surgical nursing; and was the administrator of the Union City Memorial Hospital in Indiana. She co-founded and held the position of administrator for the RN Registry of Private Duty Nurses. She also was a member of St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary, both in Indianapolis.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Indianapolis, the Rev. Glen O'Connor officiating.
Calling is 4-7:30 p.m. today and 9-9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, Indianapolis. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m at the chapel.
Contributions can be made to the Catholic Youth Organization, Indianapolis.
