Jail groundbreaking
Photo by Shelley Grieshop/The Daily Standard

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey and county Commissioners Bob Nuding, John Bruns and Jerry Laffin perform the traditional groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday morning to kick-off construction of the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility at 4835 state Route 29, west of Celina. The project - estimated to cost just under $12 million - is set for completion by Oct. 28, 2009. The new jail, which will house 100 prisoners, is being built with funds generated from a 0.5 percent sales tax levy, which was approved by voters last year.
