Franklin Township in Mercer County has been approved for a $8,811 Ohio NatureWorks grant to buy land for greenspace preservation.
The original grant application requested the funds to buy a three-acre wooded parcel along a stream near the intersection of state Route 219 and Karafit Road.
Some local municipalities have been affected seriously by a national shortage of salt used to control icing on winter roads. Others have adequate supplies but are conserving its use.
