Robert Schmitz
Former Fort Recovery resident Robert Schmitz, 80, died at 3:30 p.m. March 27, 2009, at Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles.
He was born May 26, 1928, in North Auburn, to George and Blanche Fisher Schmitz.
Surviving are three brothers, Bernard (Eileen) Schmitz, Fort Recovery, Ralph (Alvera) Schmitz, New Bremen, and Cletus (Delores) Schmitz, St. Henry; two sisters, Agnes (Alfred) Heydinger, Jacksonville, Fla., and Rosemary Riley, Shelby; and two sisters-in-law, Hilda Schmitz, Union City, and Anna Schmitz, Versailles.
Deceased are two brothers, Edgar and Paul; and a sister, Rita Boeckman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Coldwater, and American Legion and Knights of Columbus, both of Fort Recovery. He also was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, and its Holy Name Society.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Charles Mullen officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A prayer service will be conducted by the Knights of Columbus at 7:50 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
