LeRoy Kennedy
LeRoy Erret Kennedy, 85, of 704 Sturgeon St. Marys, died at 2:08 p.m. March 28, 2009, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born March 13, 1924, in Nortonville, Ky., to Albert and Bessie Mae Oldman Kennedy. He married Lois Carroll, who is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters, Martha Ann Kennedy, Columbus, and Karen (Patrick) Howick, St. Marys.
Deceased are a daughter, Dorothea Kennedy and a grandson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1949, and earned his juris doctorate from Stetson University in 1951. He worked as an attorney in the insurance industry for many years, including as vice-president of Celina Insurance Group from 1961-69, president and CEO of Northwestern National Insurance Company from 1980-86. He served on the Board of Directors of the Northwestern National Insurance Company, Milwaukee, Wisc., DePaul Rehabilitation Hospital, Milwaukee, DePaul Health Systems,, Wisconsin Heritages, Inc., and the Milwaukee Hearing Society. He was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church, St. Marys, and Kiwanis, both in St. Marys, the Saint Andrew's Society and the American Legion. He volunteered at Agape Ministries and Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
