Irene Schlater
Irene R. Schlater, 76, 91 Connie Ave., North Star, died at 9:30 a.m. April 5, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Burkettsville, to Alex and Carrie Huber Hemmelgarn. On May 21, 1955, she married Louis Schlater, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, Bob (Judy) Schlater, St. Henry, Nick (Jane) Schlater, North Star, and Joe (Lynne) Schlater, Versailles; three daughters, Sharon (Bill) Langenkamp, North Star, Jane (Gary) Smith, Versailles, and Cindy (Randy) Giere, Coldwater; two brothers, Clete (Florence) Hemmelgarn, and Paul (Donna) Hemmelgarn, all of Burkettsville; two sisters, Ruth Westgerdes, Fort Recovery, and Mary (Paul) Mestemaker, New Weston; a sister-in-law, Odesse Hemmelgarn, Dayton; 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Norman and Cyril Hemmelgarn; a sister-in-law, Beverly Hemmelgarn; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Westgerdes.
She helped with the family farm and baked wedding cakes for 40 years and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, North Star, its St. Ann's Rosary Altar Sodality and funeral choir, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the North Star American Legion.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Zink officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry, and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
