Ruth Bertke
Ruth D. Bertke, 80, 2052 St. Johns Road, Maria Stein, died at 11:25 a.m. Sept. 25, 2009, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, after being struck by a car four hours earlier.
She was born April 28, 1929, in McCartyville, to Martin and Anna Daniel Huecker. On July 9, 1949, she married Dennis A. Bertke, who survives.
Other survivors are eight sons, Jerry (Janie) Bertke, Coldwater, Ted (Dianna) Bertke, John (Karen) Bertke and Dave Bertke, all of Celina, Ken (Kathy) Bertke, Versailles, Nick (Lin) Bertke, Troy, and Norman (Tiffany) Bertke and Scott (Annie) Bertke, all of Columbus; three daughters, Jan (Ron) Hertel, Celina, Betty (Brian) Rembacki, Coldwater, and Kay (Don) Homan, New Bremen; a brother, Gene (Joan) Huecker, Huber Heights; a sister, Mary Ballweg, Huber Heights; a brother-in-law, Louis Doenges, New Bremen; a sister-in-law, Marcella Huecker, Sidney; 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Mike Bertke; three brothers, Daniel, Richard and Vernon; a sister, Lucille Doenges; and a brother-in-law, Adrian Ballweg.
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, and its Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary and Uniform Rank, Maria Stein. She was a rosary maker and a volunteer at Marion Local Schools and for the American Red Cross bloodmobile. She also served as a pollworker.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Gene Schnipke officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday and 9-9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
