Students learn on the lake
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

About 75 students from Marion Local High School participated in a field day on Grand Lake Friday. Utilizing grant funds and a working relationship with the Grand Lake/Wabash Watershed Alliance, students combined technology with their science skills to examine the water quality of the lake. Activities included visiting the fish hatchery, observing a fish shocking demonstration by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to get a species count and water sampling to check turbidity and macroinvertebrate presence. Biology, chemistry and natural science students who didn't attend Friday's events will calculate the data and complete a report.
