Virgil Gruebmeyer
Virgil Herbert Gruebmeyer, 88, New Knoxville, died at 6:10 p.m. May 14, 2010, at his home.
He was born June 13, 1921, in Shelby County, to Henry and Leona May Gruebmeyer. He married Julia Richardson, who is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen (Ken) Eagle, Morristown, N.C., and Sheila (John) Eversman, Van Wert; one sister, Virginia (Kermit) Heidt, Lima; a companion, Terry Hesson, Celina; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Deceased are three sisters, Irene Seitz, Lucille Moeller and Nancy Gruebmeyer; and two brothers, Harold and Robert Gruebmeyer.
He was a 1939 graduate of New Knoxville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 34 years. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 9289 in St. Marys and Disabled American Veteran's in Wapakoneta. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial with military honors by the American Legion Post 444 will follow at German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Memorials can be made to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the First United Church of Christ.
