Gaggle of geese
local picture
Canada geese and their young are rounded up for banding Wednesday by local volunteers and officials from the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The geese are transported to the Mercer County Wildlife Area where they are banded and kept in an enclosure for a few weeks. The banding is done to help determine population, distribution, survival rates and to set hunter bag limits, said Ohio Division of Wildlife Supervisor Dave Kohler. The geese are banded this time each year because adult geese are molting and can't fly.
