Rev. Alphonse Jungwirth
The Rev. Alphonse J. Jungwirth, 91, a member of the Kansas City Province of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, died July 28, 2010, at St. Charles Center in Carthagena.
He was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Karl and Theresa Stoiber Jungwirth.
Surviving is a sister, Sister M. Frances Therese, SSND, of Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Deceased is a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Henry Homa.
He was ordained on May 9, 1943, at the former St. Charles Seminary in Carthagena. He did missions in Chile and served as an associate pastor in Garden City, Kan., and Lebanon, Pa. His first job as a pastor was in Rockford. He also was a pastor at Hillview, S.D., Beulah, N.D., Holly, Colo., Wakeeney, Kan., and Mystic, Iowa. He retired to St. Charles Center in Carthagena in 1996.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. today at the Assumption Chapel at St. Charles Center in Carthagena. Burial is at the community cemetery.
Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry is handling arrangements.
