Cavs outscore Flyers 26-3 in doubleheader
COLDWATER - The Coldwater Cavaliers improved to 3-0 against other Mercer County ACME baseball squads after a doubleheader sweep over Marion Local on Tuesday night at Veterans Field.
The pair of wins pushes Coldwater's overall summer record to 4-1 overall while the Flyers, who split their opening twinbill with New Bremen last Friday, falling to 1-3.
The Cavaliers' offense got going quickly in the twinbill by scoring seven runs in the second inning before adding seven more runs in the fourth en route to a 16-0 win in five innings. The Flyers scored first in the nightcap, but Coldwater rallied for a 10-3 victory.
"I was happy we swung the bats tonight," said Coldwater's skipper Tom Brunswick. "We got ourselves in some good hitting counts and we squared up on some balls."

Game One
The Cavaliers put the game out of reach in the second inning by sending 11 men to the plate and scoring seven runs. Mitch Heyne drove in two runs with a triple while Adam Klosterman had an RBI double with Matt Kremer contributing an RBI single.
That was more than enough run support for Cavaliers' pitcher Christian Schramm, who scattered four hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Twice the Flyers left a runner stranded at third base while Coldwater's defense also executed two double plays to end potential threats.
Heyne and Matt Selhorst each had two hits for Coldwater while Klosterman and Matt Kramer each scored three times.

Game Two
The Flyers jumped out to an early advantage in the nightcap as Jordan Rethman singled and stole two bases before trotting home on a balk by Cavs' pitcher Grant Muhlenkamp.
Coldwater quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the first frame and then added a run in the second that turned out to be the game-winner. The Cavaliers added two runs in the fifth and iced the game with four more in the sixth.
Muhlenkamp was solid for four innings before allowing the first two runners to reach base in the fifth. Brunswick brought in Selhorst, who had been the designated hitter for Muhlenkamp, for relief mound work. The Flyers did add a run in the sixth when Cory Heitkamp singled in Peyton Kremer before adding another run in the seventh when Kramer singled in Nick Schmitz.
"One of our goals going into the season was to find some pitching," said Brunswick. "We had just Christian and Selly (Selhorst) back from the spring, so a lot of young guys had to get some opportunities. I was happy with the way Grant pitched tonight."
"I thought our effort was better in the second game than the first game tonight," said Flyers' coach Jeremy Hess. "Give Coldwater the credit. They played well.
Coldwater's incoming freshman Malave Bettinger hit a pair of doubles and scored twice while Blake Spangler also added two hits. Heitkamp had two hits for Marion.
Coldwater is back in action tonight traveling to New Bremen while Marion Local is back in action on Thursday hosting Fort Recovery for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader.
Veterans Appreciation Night: The Coldwater ACME team will be holding Veterans Appreciation Night at Veterans Field on Friday. The junior ACME will play Elida at 5:30 p.m., followed by the senior ACME team facing the Bulldogs around 7:45 p.m. The Sons of the American Legion Post 470 will present the colors before the senior ACME game. Veterans in attendance will be announced and honored for their service throughout the game.
