Vernon Hartings
Vernon A. Hartings, 80, St. Rose, died at 8 a.m. Sept. 13, 2012 at his home.
He was born Feb. 28, 1932, in St. Rose, to John and Bernadine Leugers Hartings. On Sept. 5, 1953, he married Alberta Ranly, who died Nov. 8, 1982. On Nov. 4, 1989, he married Arlene Wolaver, who survives.
Also surviving are four children Deb Brown, Chickasaw, Diana (Nicholas) Bruggeman, Cranberry Prairie, Kevin (Sandy) Hartings, Maria Stein, Jeff (Joyce) Hartings, St. Rose; two stepchildren Kyle (Nancy) Plattner, Ft. Loramie, and Karen (Brian) Cron, Piqua; siblings Alfrieda F. Mescher, Minster, Leo (Beverly) Hartings, Shelby, Alice Moorman, Minster, Doris (Eugene) Imwalle, Maria Stein; in-laws, Len Hartings, Celina, Lowell (Sue) Wolaver, Ft. Loramie, Kenneth (Carol) Wolaver, Houston; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Mary Hartings; siblings Alfred (Edna) Hartings, Eleanor (Leander) Knapke, Luella (Walter) Osterholt, Richard Hartings, Wilfred Hartings, Norma (Elton) Thobe and Ivo Hartings; and in-laws Paul Mescher and Virgil Moorman.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose, and belonged to its Men's Sodality. He also was a member of the Marion Local Athletic Boosters and MCDO. He retired from Crown Equipment, New Bremen, and worked independently as a craftsman.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Gene Schnipke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.
Calling is 1-6 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.
Memorials may be given to St. Rita's Hospice or Marion Local Athletic Boosters.
