Ann Wehrley
Ann Barga George Wehrley, 84, Greenville and formerly of Versailles, died March 2, 2013.
She was born July 17, 1928, at the family homestead near Brock, the fifth child of Art and Carrie Schwartz Barga. A graduate of Versailles schools, she married James P. George, who preceded her in death; together they owned and operated Frenchie's Restaurant in Versailles until 1980.
She then married Tim Wehrley, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Thomas J. (Tara) George of Troy; stepdaughters, Christine Roberts and family of Margate, Fla., Jill DeVon and family of Lafayette, Ind., and Madalyn Wehrley of Parrish, Fla.; grandchildren, J. Tyler George of Troy and Kathryn K. (Chris) Edwards; and great-granddaughter, Georgie G. Edwards of Charleston, S.C.; brothers, Norman (Edna) of Union City, Ind., and Thomas (Mary Lou) of Vandalia; and sisters-in-law, Eileen and Susie Barga, both of Versailles.
Also deceased are her brothers, Marvin, Richard and Nelson Barga.
She worked in the food and beverage business until age 80. She then transferred her energy and enthusiasm to the Darke County Community Action Partnership where she volunteered. In February of 2012, she received the Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year award. It was said that "Ann has a warm, welcome smile to everyone who visits the clothing bank. No one leaves without having made a friend through Ann Wehrley ... Ann's energy, bubbling personality and happy demeanor bring a smile to the saddest of folks and melt the hardest of hearts."
She retired from the clothing bank in December 2012 but continued to happily carry her 20-pound handbag that contained a hammer, screwdriver and shot glass among other things.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, the Rev. Dr. Richard Culp officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
A gathering will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.
Memorials may be given to State of the Heart Hospice or the American Heart Association.
