Frigid first day
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

Ice-imprisoned vegetation growing along the Grand Lake shore line behind the Eagles on this first day of spring serves as a stark reminder of the inconsistency of Mother Nature. Last year at this time, residents enjoyed summer-like weather when the temperature soared to 82. In fact, from March 13 to March 22, 2012, the temperature ranged from 70 to 85. Today's high is predicted at a chilly 30.
