Eugene Vann
Retired First Sergeant Eugene Kent Vann, 55, Fountain, Colo., and formerly of Rockford, passed away in Pueblo, Colo. Oct. 25, 2013.
He was born Sept. 9, 1958, in Celina to Fred and Gloria Vann, who survive in Rockford.
Also surviving are his wife, Sharon Vann, Fountain; two sons, Christopher Vann, Atlanta, Ga., and Byron Vann, Fountain; two daughters, Holly (Lane) Faust, Fountain, and Danielle (Clayton) Johnson, Fountain; a brother, Mike Vann, Rockford; three sisters, Pamela Wells, Columbus, Donna (Carey) Huston, Celina, and Cheryl (Steve) Hambley, Brunswick; and six grandchildren, Rose Vann, Alexander Toth, William Vann, and Zoie, Kaylee and Paisley Johnson.
Deceased are his grandparents, John Sr. and Ethel Vann, and Clarence and Dorothy Emerson.
He was a 1977 graduate of Parkway High School. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1999 after 22 years of military service. He was awarded numerous awards and decorations throughout his military career. Upon retirement, he began a second career as a systems engineer and was as an employee with Intelligent Software Solutions he spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Funeral services are noon Saturday, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, the Rev. Todd Moser officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with full military honors.
Calling is 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
