He was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Miami County to the late Verdi and Nellie (Allen) Ralston. On June 8, 1947, he married Wilma M. Barker, who survives at Shane Hill.
Also surviving is a daughter, Mary (Greg) Schumm, St. Marys; three grandsons and their families, Dr. Jeremy (Michelle) Schumm, Jason (Kate) Schumm and Joel (Cassie) Schumm; and great-grandchildren, Henry, Maggie, Presley, Hayden and Bennett.
Deceased are four brothers and a sister.
He served his country in the Navy, traveling the world during World War II. He owned his own agricultural limestone spreading business and later retired from Aeroquip in Van Wert. He was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a past master six times and past president of the 4th Masonic District. He served as district deputy grand master three times and also was a 32nd degree mason and past president of Aug-Mer 32 Degree Club. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Eagles Lodge, all of Celina.
He had many hobbies. He was a very talented woodworker and craftsman. In his early years, he was a baseball umpire and ran the chains for the Parkway football program. For five years, he and Tom Huston of Coldwater reconditioned 178 bicycles and delivered them to needy children on Christmas Eve. Each morning he went to Northmoor Golf Course for coffee and conversation, which kept him young at heart. He was a competitive golfer who had multiple holes in one. When his grandsons were growing up, he also loved attending their activities.
Calling is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, prior to the funeral rites. A Masonic and military memorial service will be held from 6-7 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Brunstrup officiating.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Shrine Hospital for children.
