Jean Smith
Jean L. Smith, 91, St. Marys, died at 10 p.m. May 12, 2014, at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys.
She was born Dec. 20, 1922, in St. Marys, to John and Lucy Coil Beale. On Nov. 13, 1944, she married Darell S. Smith in San Francisco, Calif., and he died June 23, 2009.
Surviving are two sons, Steven (Nancy) Smith, Springfield, and Thomas Smith, Celina; two grandchildren, Laura (John) Whitmarsh, Redding, Calif., and Jason (Becca) Smith, Springfield; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also deceased are a daughter-in-law, Judy Smith; a granddaughter, Tami Bryum; and five siblings, Eunice Whetstone, Elmer Beale, Richard Beale, Bobbi Hickernell and Mary Axe.
She was a 1940 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II. She was a homemaker and had volunteered at the Valley Nursing Home in St. Marys for many years. She was a charter member of the Living Hope Assembly of God, St. Marys.
Funeral rites are 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home West Chapel, St. Marys, the Rev. Rick Scheer officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery near Monticello.
Calling is 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Living Hope Assembly of God Church or Agape Ministries, St. Marys.
