Robert Koch
Robert P. Koch, 92, St. Marys, died at 11 p.m. Sept. 7, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Wapakoneta, to Gus and Ann Kachelreis Koch. On April 26, 1945, he married Jeanne Quellhorst, who died Oct. 11, 1958. He then married Lois Bowers, who also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Steven (Joan) Koch, Asheville, N.C., and Craig (Jill) Koch, St. Marys; and three grandchildren, Dylan Koch, Phillip Koch and Jeffrey Koch.
Also deceased are two brothers, Les Koch and Harold Koch; and two sisters, Marian McCashen and Edna Streight.
He was a 1940 graduate of Blume High School, Wapakoneta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a 2nd lieutenant in the Medical Corps during World War II. He graduated from Miami University. He was an accountant and had worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Essex Wire and United Technologies.
He enjoyed spending time with his friends at VFW Post 9289, St. Marys. He also was a member of American Legion Post 323 and Eagles Lodge 767, both of St. Marys. He was a member of the St. Marys Jaycees and a charter member and past president of the St. Marys Kiwanis Club. He served as secretary/treasurer of St. Marys Little League for many years and was Band Parents president.
He enjoyed fishing in Canada and also loved traveling to Florida each winter. He was very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, High Street chapel, St. Marys, the Rev. Ed Bray officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Auglaize County Council on Aging.
