Donald Fox
Dr. Donald R. Fox, 93, Celina, passed away at 4:18 p.m. Oct. 24, 2014.
He was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Cincinnati to A.J. and Eleanor Wagner Fox. His wife of 62 years, Kathleen Shields Fox, survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Sue (Bob) Grubaugh, Celina, Becky (Mike) Dickman, Columbus, Kathy (Steve) Wipper, Hilton Head, S.C., and Jane (Mick) Townsend, Hilton Head, S.C.; six grandchildren, Katie (Craig) Szymczak, Donald Robert (Karaline) Grubaugh, Jennifer and Brian Dickman, and Elizabeth and Meredith Wipper; and three great-grandchildren, Scott and Leigha Szymczak and Rowan Grubaugh.
He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Chattanooga, Tenn., and attended the University of Chattanooga for two years on a football scholarship until he was drafted into the Army Medical Corps during World War II. He then attended The University of Alabama where he received his bachelor's degree in biology. He went on to Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, Pa., where he was a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity.
He completed his internship and residency in family practice at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He started his medical practice in Celina in 1954 and was coroner for Mercer County for 30 years, until he retired in 1989.
He was a member of Mercer County Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Society and The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He also served on the board of Coldwater Community Hospital. He was a charter member of Mercer County Elks, Moose Lodge, VFW Post 5713 and American Legion Post 210 and a member of the Mercer County Sportsman Association.
He was a third-degree knight with the Celina Knights of Columbus Council 1800 and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, the Rev. Kenneth Schnipke officiating. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery, Celina, with military honors conducted by Celina American Legion.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina. The American Legion and VFW will perform membership services are at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus membership services are at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Hospice and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
