Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

Marion Local fourth-graders Jake Topp, Aidan Eifert and Sydney Hutchinson stack cups at the elementary school on Thursday morning. They attempted to help break the world record for the largest sport stacking event organized by the World Sport Stacking Association. Stackers from the U.S., Germany, South Korea, New Zealand and Taiwan were expected take part in the event with a goal of 600,000 stackers. The most recent verified count is 318,307 but the numbers are still being tallied. Last year, 555,932 people stacked cups to break the previous record.
