Norma Shaffer
Norma Eileen (Allmandinger) Shaffer, age 84, of Celina, passed away Friday morning, March 20, 2015, at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Born February 18, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Karl M. & Chloa Smith Allmandinger. Norma and Don E. Shaffer were married on October 18, 1953, and he preceded her in death on December 31, 1995.
Five children survive: Mike (Cindy) Shaffer, Mark Shaffer, Kent (Julie) Shaffer, Steve Shaffer and Donette Shaffer, all of Celina, 10 Grandchildren: Brad (Dani), Kate, Jared, Joseph, Jenna, Kara, Jonathan and Jimmy (Sammie) Shaffer, Abby (Andy) Scheidt and Nicole (Troy) Hirschy, and 5 Great Grandchildren: Laken, Owen, Isabella, Taryn and Xander. Sisters & Brothers-in-law surviving are: JoAnn, Patricia and Pauline Shaffer, Virginia Wendel, Jon & Martha Sidenbender and Mary DeLong.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marcella (Harold) Buel, a brother, Karl E. (Helen) Allmandinger, a Granddaughter, Natasha, and Brothers & Sisters-in-law: Glenn & Donna Shaffer, Basil & Wilma Shaffer, and Leo "Butch," Charles, Leland, Thurman and Robert Shaffer.
Norma graduated from Celina High School in 1949, and the Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She served the Celina community for 55 years as a caring and dedicated nurse. Norma worked at Gibbons Hospital, Dr. Dobbins' office, Celina Manor and Doctors' Care.
She was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hopewell Township. Over the years Norma was active with the Women of the Church, the church choir, and also taught Sunday School and Bible School.
Norma enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she loved taking lots of photographs.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 24, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hopewell Township. Rev. Karen Tamorria will officiate. Burial will follow at Buck Cemetery, near Celina.
Calling Hours are 2-5:00 & 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, March 23, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, and 1 hour prior to time of Services on Tuesday at the Church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to tthe American Heart Association or St. John's Lutheran Church, Hopewell Township.
