Dorothy Brown
Dorothy H. Brown, 84, formerly of 11056 State Route 364, Saint Marys, Ohio, and a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, died 5:20 A.M. Friday, March 27, 2015, at Otterbein Saint Marys.
She was born January 24, 1931, in Chickasaw, Ohio, the daughter of Leo and Clara (Kaiser) Homan.
She married Anthony J. Brown on August 20, 1955, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Chickasaw, and he preceded her in death on May 15, 2013.
She is survived by her nine children: Stanley (Deborah) Brown of Saint Marys; Gary Brown of Saint Marys; Jane (Dave) Huber of Saint Marys; Sharon (Rex) Hawkey of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; Kevin (Sherri) Brown of Saint Marys; Julie (Jon) Roberts of Saint Marys; Thomas Brown of Saint Marys; Dale (Lori) Brown of Saint Marys; Mary (Steve) Bargdill of Laramie, Wyoming.
She is survived by 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Donald Homan of Otterbein St. Marys; Velma (Sylvester) Berning of Sidney; Joan Homan of New Bremen; Leo (Diane) Homan of Maria Stein; by her sister-in-law Lillian Homan of New Bremen; her brother-in-law Alvin Brown of New Bremen.
She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Francis (Ruth) Brown of Botkins; the Reverend Harold Brown of Bellvue, Ohio; Alvin Brown of New Bremen;Mary Yahl of Botkins; Ann Leinweber of New Bremen; Agnes (Cletus) Schmerge of LaSalle, Colorado; the Reverend Joseph Brown of Carthagena, Ohio; John (Pamela) Brown of Celina; David (Jeanette) Brown of Saint Marys;Dr. Virgil (Mary Ellen) Brown of Wapakoneta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; siblings Harold (Rosemary) Brown; Maurice (Joann) Homan; Arnold Homan and Ruth Brown; by and infant Mary Homan.
Dorothy was a 1949 graduate of Minster High School. She was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of Brown's Roadside Market, offering sweet corn, melons and other farm fresh vegetables. She enjoyed playing cards, solving soduko puzzles and sewing. She did a lot of vegetable canning over the years, and was known for her homemade applesauce. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, where she was active in the church choir and the Altar Rosary Sodality. She and her husband, Tony, were active in many area prayer groups.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saint Marys, Father Barry Stechschulte and Father Harold Brown, con-celebrants. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Ohio, where memorial gifts may be given to either the Catholic Community Foundation, Otterbein Benevolence Fund or Grand Lake Hospice.
