Doris Dorner
Doris Mary Dorner passed away peacefully at her residence in Wapakoneta, Ohio on Thursday April 2, 2015 with her family by her side.
She was born October 27, 1938 on a small family farm located just outside Russia, Ohio, to parents Alpha and Ruth (George) Petitjean, who preceded her in death.
Doris attended school in Russia, graduating from Russia High School in 1956. Upon graduation, Doris moved to Dayton, Ohio and worked in the offices of the National Cash Register Co. It was during that time that she began a 56-year relationship with the love of her life, John J. Dorner, who died on April 17, 2012.
Doris and John lived in Troy and Tipp City, Ohio before settling down in Wapakoneta in 1966. It was there that the two raised their family and developed treasured, life-long relationships with their many friends.
Doris was a homemaker while her children were in school, and later worked as an accomplished seamstress at the Bridal Emporium in Wapakoneta until her retirement in 2013.
Doris was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, as well as the Wapakoneta Eagles Aerie #691. She was also active with her circle of friends at the Curves fitness facility in Wapak.
An avid sports fan, Doris religiously followed the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She was a fan of high school sports too, where she could often be seen in the stands serving as the "unofficial scorekeeper" and rooting for her Redskins, both from Wapakoneta and St. Henry.
Some of Doris' hobbies and favorite things to do included playing cards with the girls from "card club," bingo, and she especially loved dancing with her husband John. Those two could really "cut a rug!"
Doris will be remembered most for her complete devotion to family. For her, they always came first. Nothing brought her more joy than being with her loved ones. Whether it was a holiday celebration, a ballgame, a dance or musical performance or simply time together, Doris was there. She was all in!
Doris is survived by her three children, Jeff (Kay) Dorner of Wapakoneta, John (Brenda) Dorner of St. Henry, and Jodie Dorner of Marina Del Rey, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Drew Dorner of Columbus, and Nora and Mitchell Dorner of St. Henry. Surviving brothers include Robert Petitjean of Middletown, OH, John Carl (Joyce) Petitjean of Prospect, KY, and William Petitjean of Marengo, OH.
Doris was preceded in death by a sister Joan (Leon) Freeman, and brothers Ronald Petitjean, Dennis (Marilyn) Petitjean and Lee Edward Petitjean. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta with Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 7 at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, 1102 Lincoln Avenue (SR 501) in Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be made payable to the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer/Meyer Fund/The James Cancer Center or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
