Joseph Hageman
Joseph L. "Joe" Hageman, 73, went to be with the Lord on Thurs. April 9, 2015 from his beloved home near Botkins, Oh. He was born January 21, 1942, near Botkins, the eldest son to the late Henry and Mary (Craft) Hageman. On July 4, 1966, Joe married his best friend, Jean Marchal at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia, Oh. They celebrated 48 wonderful years together.
In addition to Jean, Joe is survived by their children, Jim and Joan Hageman, and Karen and Stan Weintock; grandsons Alex Hageman, and Shawn and Autumn Weinstock; great grandsons Gauge Weinstock and Isiah Eaton; siblings Theresa Kemper, Urban Hageman, Ruth and Bob Menz, Tom and Linda Hageman, Mark and Pam Hageman, Marion and Connie Hageman; brothers-in-law, Jim and Dina Marchal, and Kay and Wes Sanders; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother Bob Hageman, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Eva Marchal, brothers-in-law John Kemper, Cletus Marchal, Tim Thobe, and Ken Weubker, along with one niece and numerous aunts and uncles.
Joe was a member of the Botkins Local High School Class of 1960, and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine, Oh. His other memberships included the American Legion, Heiland Post #446 Anna-Botkins, and the Knights of Columbus, Council #1272, Wapakoneta.
He served as a member of the Botkins Local School Board, member of the St. Lawrence Church Parish Council, Bingo Program, and a former chair of the Annual Turkey Shoot at Rhine.
A farmer, Joe retired in 2001 from Solloman Electric, Sidney, Oh, as a journeyman electrician. He spent his retirement years traveling through the Midwest attending various Plow Days. Joe also cared for the St. Lawrence Church Grounds and the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.
Joe enjoyed spending time with family, charting the grain markets, and going to tractor pulls. In his early years Joe participated in garden tractor pulling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tues. April 14, 2015, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine, Oh, Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Botkins, Oh.
The family will receive friends 2-8 Mon. at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home and Cremation Service, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the Botkins Fire Department or Anna Rescue in Joe's honor. Joe would want something that would best benefit the majority of the community.
