Coldwater man killed in motorcycle accident

Deadly weekend claims 3 area lives

By Shelley Grieshop
COLDWATER - A 24-year-old man was killed late Saturday morning when his motorcycle was struck by a sport utility vehicle on state Route 219, west of Gause Road in Butler Township.
Dustin A. Rutter, 321 E. College St., Coldwater, was taken by squad to Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, where he later was pronounced dead.
The driver of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, Jane E. Fiely, 65, 3192 state Route 219, Coldwater, was taken to the Coldwater hospital by private vehicle. No information was available on her injuries.
According to Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey, Fiely had just left her nearby home at 11:26 a.m. and was heading eastbound when she looked in her rear view mirror and noticed her dogs running loose. As she attempted a lefthand turn into a private driveway to turn around, her vehicle reportedly struck Rutter's westbound 1986 Honda motorcycle.
Rutter reportedly was married and the father of an infant.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time at Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, Greenville.
Grey said the accident remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were Coldwater Fire Department and EMS and the Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.
Rutter's death marked the second traffic fatality this year in Mercer County.
