Norbert Metzger
Norbert A. Metzger, 90, Fort Recovery, Ohio, died on October 4, 2015, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, Ohio.
He was born January 25, 1925, in Fort Recovery, to the late Joseph and Dora (Lammier) Kibby Metzger. On July 5, 1947, he married the late Rose Mary (Timmerman) Metzger, who died June 12, 1977.
Surviving are his children, Jeanette (Louis) Diller of Fort Recovery, Joe (Sharon) Metzger of Fort Recovery, Sue (Gary) Kuess of Celina, OH and Chuck (Linda) Metzger of Fort Recovery; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Metzger of Fort Recovery; in-laws, Rita Wendel of Coldwater, Pauline Timmerman of Coldwater, Robert Pax of St. Henry, OH, and Lou Ann Timmerman of St. Henry.
Preceding him in death are a son, Dale Metzger; a grandchild, Jami Metzger; a great grandchild, Trevor Huntsman; a brother, Victor Metzger; and a half brother, Leonard Kibby.
He was a 1943 graduate of Fort Recovery High School.
Norbert was a bulk distributor for Standard Oil in Fort Recovery for 34 years. After retirement he was a courier for Second National Bank and maintenance chairman for the Ambassador Club Park, Fort Recovery for many years.
He played for the Sharpsburg Speeds traveling baseball team in the 1940s and also played for the American Legion baseball team.
Norbert served on the Fort Recovery Board of Education from 1962 to 1970. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3324 and Chamber of Commerce, both of Fort Recovery. He was the 1980 recipient of the Fort Recovery Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year award and was later inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Norbert chaired the Harvest Jubilee for many years and was active in the Ambassador Club. He was also a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery.
Norbert was an avid Fort Recovery Indians fan and for 58 consecutive years he attended every high school basketball game. He enjoyed being with his family and attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting events.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, Fr. Ned Brown officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery.
Calling is 2:00 pm-8:00 pm Wednesday and 9:00 am-10:00 am Thursday at Brockman - Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. A Knights of Columbus prayer service will be held at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
