Sister Luella Huelskamp
Sister Luella Huelskamp died at the Maria Joseph Center in Dayton on Feb. 19, 2016. Luella had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 71 years.
One of eight children, Luella was born in Fort Recovery, Ohio on Oct. 20, 1928 to Aloysius and Rose (Harlett) Huelskamp.
Sister Luella is survived by her Precious Blood Community of Sisters, her brother, Arthur (Janice) Huelskamp and sister, Mildred Will, both of Ft. Recovery as well as nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her sisters, Margaret, Sister Alma and her brothers Alfred, Ernest, and Eugene.
On July 13, 1944, at the age of 15, she formally entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood. In religious life she was given the name of Sister Mary Victor and later returned to using her baptismal name. Her Sisters in community were inspired by her dedication, selfless giving and joyful spirit.
Luella lived out her favorite saying, "What you do for others, you do for me." Beginning in 1947, she ministered for 33 years as a teacher of grades 2-6 and later as principal. She educated children at Fort Wayne and Rensselaer, Ind.; at Dayton, Columbus Grove, St Marys, Glandorf and Ottoville, Ohio; and at Linton, N.D. Starting in 1980 Sister Luella served her Sisters as Coordinator at the Emma Hall infirmary for five years. "Those five years with the Sisters," wrote Luella, "left a deep impression on me of the prayer life of these Sisters who had given their all for God."
Later Sister served as executive housekeeper at Marion Hall in Flint, Mich. From 1989-2000 she served her Sisters as night assistant and housekeeper at Salem Heights where she resided. For the next eight years she served her Sisters in various capacities. Because of failing health she moved to the Maria Joseph Center in 2008.
Visitation will be at the Chapel Monday from 9-10:30 a.m. immediately preceding the liturgy.
Resurrection liturgy for Precious Blood Sister Luella Huelskamp, will be held at Salem Heights Chapel, 4960 Salem Ave., Dayton, Ohio on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
