James Vogel
James O. Vogel, 90, formerly of St. Marys, OH died 5:50 a.m. Friday April 29, 2016 at Otterbein-St. Marys.
He was born October 24, 1925 in Cuyahoga Co., OH to Edward O. and Lillian M. (Prichard) Vogel.
On December 22, 1950, he married Marilyn J. Kruger, who died November 24, 2008.
Survivors include: son David (Deborah) Vogel of Scottsdale, AZ; son Dan (Mary) Vogel of Marlborough, MA; daughter Marsha (Ralph) Heckler of St. Marys, OH; 7 grandchildren (Jeff Heckler, Abby Gray, Christina Chaney, MacKenzie Vogel, Mark Vogel, Emily Vogel Wu, Audrey Vogel); 2 great-grandsons (Carson and Emmett Heckler); sister Wanda Dammeyer of St. Marys, OH; sister Jeanette Hoenie of Bonita Springs, FL; and brother Robert Vogel of St. Marys, OH.
Preceded in death by: parents Edward and Lillian Vogel; wife Marilyn Vogel; brother George Vogel; brother Walter Vogel; infant sister Kathleen Vogel.
He was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1943).
A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a retired production employee for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys. In addition, he drove a school bus for Auglaize School in New Bremen for many years.
He was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in St. Marys, where he served as a deacon and president of its consistory. He was also a member of American Legion Post #323 in St. Marys.
Jim was active in numerous Masonic bodies, including Mercer Lodge #121 F & AM, Hawthorne Chapter #119 OES (past worthy patron), Scottish Rite (Valley of Dayton), Aug-Mer Shrine Club, AAOMS, Amaranth (royal patron), White Shrine (Watchman of the Shepherd), and St. Marys Chapter #51 (high priest).
His favorite pastime was woodworking.
Rites for Mr. Vogel are scheduled to begin 11:00 a.m. Monday May 2, 2016 at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys. The Rev. Dr. Ed Bray will officiate the services. Burial, with full graveside military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton, OH.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Masonic services begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
