John Adams
John Franklin Adams, 94, of Mendon, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford.
John was born September 24, 1921 in Fort Jennings, OH to Berl Adams & Velma (Davis) Adams. On September 19, 1948, he married Jean A. Dicke, who preceded him in death on August 13, 2008. 
He is survived by 2 Daughters: Janice (Dennis) Clay of Mendon and Joyce (Brian) Burckholter of Antwerp, 3 Grandchildren: Andrew Clay, Aaron Clay, and Amy (Tom) Bradley, all of Mendon; and 3 Great Grandchildren: Emma & Carly Clay and Branson Bradley. Other survivors include a Brother-in-law & Sisters-in-law: Wilda (Jim) Allison of New Lexington, OH; Anna Rose Dicke of Mena, Arkansas; Mary Lou Adams of Spencerville; Fran Adams of Ottawa and Shirley Adams of Spencerville; and many Nieces & Nephews.
    John was preceded in death by his Parents: Berl & Velma Adams, Sisters: Anne (Merle) Townsend and Elnore (Neal) Jenkins; and Brothers: William "Bill" Adams, Kenneth Ray Adams and Robert Adams.  
John graduated from York Township High School in May, 1940. John proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy from August 1942 to November 1945.  He served in the Pacific Theater, was involved in the Normandy Beachhead Invasion, and was honorably discharged as a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class, having served on the U.S.S. Glennon. He had worked at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in St. Marys and Fruehauf Manufacturing in Delphos, and was a lifelong farmer. He loved his family, his community, and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a member of the Mendon Lions Club for over 50 years. He was a life member of Bowersock Brothers V.F.W. Post #6772 in Spencerville. He served as a Sunday School Superintendent at the Mendon United Methodist Church, where he was a member. John and his wife were also members of the Mercer County Farm Bureau Assn.
Calling Hours are 3:00-7:00 P.M., Monday, May 23, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 24, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, with Rev. Rob Glenn officiating.
John will be laid to rest at the Mendon Cemetery, with military honors to be conducted by the Spencerville Veterans.Pallbearers are Dennis Clay, Brian Burckholter, Andy Clay, Aaron Clay, Tom Bradley and Tom Adams. 
Memorial Contributions can be given to Mendon United Methodist Church or the Mendon Lions Club.
