Irene Broering
Irene M. (Stammen) Broering, age 91, of Russia, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at her residence Saturday morning, August 13, 2016.
She was born April 22, 1925, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, to the late Albert and Rose (Brunswick) Stammen. On May 3, 1947, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Sharpsburg, Irene married Clarence B. Broering who preceded her in death on January 9, 2009.
Her family of six children includes the late Pat & Richard Wuebker, Margaret "Peg" and Judy Broering.
Surviving are Jim & Kathy Broering of Dublin, Mary & Ken Hartke of Versailles and Sharon & Ken Elsas of Russia; ten grandchildren: Jeff and Alan Wuebker, David and Philip Broering, and Jackie Broering Van Riet, Kevin, Steve and Jason Hartke, Angela Elsas Unrast and Daniel Elsas; twenty five great-grandchildren: Grant (dec.), Natalie, Kyle, Jacob, Victoria, Laura, and Andrew Wuebker, Kirsten, Ryan, Madeline, Kaitlyn, Jack and Cassidy Hartke, Nora, Astor, and June Broering, Luke and Charlotte Van Riet, Jax, Hope (dec.), Wren and S.J. Unrast, Brantley, Easton and Lennox Elsas; three siblings: Sr. Esther Ann Stammen of Mishawaka, IN, Melvin (dec.) & Rita Stammen of Sharpsburg and Werner & Norma Stammen (both dec.); brothers & sisters-in-law, Harold Broering and Millie Broering of Maria Stein.
Survived by numerous nieces & nephews, she had also been preceded in death by brothers & sisters-in-law: Lawrence & Stella, Joe & Ann Rita, and Richard & Elanore Broering, Rosemary & Norbert Overman, Fr. Victor, Andy & Kate, Romie & Erma, Rosie Broering and Cyril Broering.
Mrs. Broering was a dedicated farmwife and homemaker. She attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown. She had been active in St. Ann's Ladies Sodality, 4th Degree K of C Ladies Auxiliary, and the former St. Denis, Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the Darke County Farm Bureau. Irene enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening. She had also made numerous rosaries over the years which became a mission benefitting people all over the world including soldiers in active duty.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. James Simons presiding. Interment will follow at the Holy Family Church Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Miami County or Right to Life of Darke County.
