West Bank Road between the spillway and Monroe Road will be closed until Friday so state workers can remove trees from the West Bank, an earthen dam constructed in the 1800s to contain Grand Lake. The photo above shows the road closed earlier this week at Monroe Road. The work is part of an ongoing project to clear brush and trees from the lake's two earthen dams on the west and east ends of the 13,500-acre lake to prevent potentially dangerous conditions. The project should wrap up by spring.
