Janice Figley
Janice Arlene "Jan" Figley, 81, of St. Marys, Ohio, formerly of Rockford, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 12:10 p.m. at Otterbein Nursing Home in St. Marys, Ohio.
She was born in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Paul and Jeanette (Stringer) McGowan. On June 28, 1958, she married Richard D. Figley, and he survives in St. Marys.
Jan lived all her adult life in the area, and was a registered nurse, working for many years at Van Wert County Hospital, Van Wert, Ohio. She was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Group.
She loved to quilt, making many beautiful creations in her lifetime. She and Dick played cards every weekend with their friends, and especially enjoyed pinochle. She was a wonderful cook - she always said it was because of the pan … not her.
Jan treasured her indoor cats - they were wonderful companions to her and her family. She loved all animals and enjoyed their presence. She had a great smile and a heart-felt laugh - she loved to do random acts of kindness for others. Jan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by her family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband, "Dick" are two children: a son, Mark (Diane) Figley of Elida, Ohio, and a daughter, Beth Figley, of Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren: Drew (Stephanie) Figley and Sarah (Scott) Burden; and a great-grandson, Scotty Burden.
Deceased is a brother, Paul McGowan, Jr. and a sister, Joann Biggart.
Services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, Ohio, with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-8 p.m., and on Friday, 1 hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to Grand Lake Hospice 1122 Spring St., St. Marys, Ohio or to the Animal Protective League of Mercer County, P.O. Box 663, Celina, Ohio.
