Paul Brandewie
Paul Brandewie, age 84, of Sidney, after suffering a brief illness, passed away with all of his quiet strength, Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2017, at St. Rita's Medical Center Hospice in Lima, Ohio.
He was born March 9, 1933, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late Lawrence and Lietta (Bensman) Brandewie. His step mother, Lucile (Eck) Bornhorst Brandewie is also deceased. On October 28, 1953, Camp Atterbury, IN, Paul married Rose Marie (Goffena) Brandewie who preceded him in death on January 12, 2011.
Surviving are four children: Curtis P. Brandewie of Troy, Lietta J. Brandewie of Cincinnati, Lori A. Brandewie of Sidney, Ann M. & Robert Darner of Sidney and Michael A. Brandewie (deceased); eight grandchildren: Isaac, Rachel, Erika, Nick, Ben, Jerrod, Cole, and Blaze; great-granddaughter, Alivia and an anticipated great-grandson, Ben Jr.; siblings: Lester Brandewie of Celina, Joan & Paul Maurer of Fort Loramie and step brother, Jim & Carol Bornhorst of Fort Loramie; sisters & brothers-in-law: Frances Gariety of Piqua, Joyce Hilgefort of Minster and Margaret Francis of Cocoa Beach, FL.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Joe & Ginny Brandewie, Walt & Jean Brandewie-Imwalle, Maurice & Arlene Brandewie, Dorothy "Dot" Brandewie, Delores & Wilbur Shotz.
Paul was a 1951 Graduate of Fort Loramie High School. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and had been an airplane mechanic in the 8178th Army Transportation Unit. Mr. Brandewie was retired from Stolle Precision Tool where he had been a tool & die maker. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217. Paul was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Bengals. He also enjoyed tinkering, shuffle-boarding, cards, fishing, hunting and camping.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 19, 2017, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Newport with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with military honors by the Sidney American Legion.
Friends may call Sunday 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Monday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Medical Center Hospice or the Sidney Senior Citizens.
