Carol Zizelman
Carol A. Zizelman, 77, of Rockford, Ohio, died at 7:28 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.
She was born on April 13, 1940, to Spencer Edward and Velma Pauline (Comer) Lewis, both of whom are deceased. On November 24, 1960, she married Ken Zizelman, who currently survives in Rockford.
They made their home in Rockford, and Carol was a beautician in Mendon, and then in Rockford, at His and Hers Salon, where she retired in 2016.
Carol was a member of the Rockford Presbyterian Church in Rockford until its closing, and then became a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Rockford. While a member of the Presbyterian Church, she held the office of Clerk of Sessions and also was a Deacon. She was active on the funeral dinner committee and the Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner committee.
She was instrumental on the committee which was organized to build the first concrete swimming pool in Rockford; she was one of the people who helped start the Rockford Community Days. She was an advocate to establish the School Cross Walk program and continued to enlist those to help at the school crossings.
Carol was a past Worthy Matron of the Rockford Chapter of Eastern Star and served in other capacities within the organization. She was a charter member of the Rockford Eagles Auxiliary, Shanes Lodge #1292 and held many offices there throughout the years.
Carol was quite the dancer; she was a past member of the Pioneer Square Dance Club, and loved all kinds of dancing, from square dancing to polka! She loved to bowl, loved sewing and embroidering…and most of all, Carol loved her family more than anything - especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She watched all their ball games, went to their concerts, and anything they participated in…and Ken was always by her side.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Ken, are two children: Carla (Rob) Frank and Lee Ann (Paul) Frank; four grandchildren: Hillary Frank, Kendall (Sara) Frank, Caleb (Amie) Frank, and Cole Frank; and one great granddaughter, Ameila Frank. One brother, Richard E. Lewis survives in Riverside California.
Services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oregon Rd., Rockford, with Pastor Mark Rutledge officiating, assisted by Doug Rich.
Friends may call at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford on Thursday from 2-8 p.m., and at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, Illinois, 60707.
