Woman rescued after vehicle goes into Grand Lake

By Tom Stankard
MONTEZUMA - Firefighters freed a St. Marys woman after her vehicle entered Grand Lake early Monday morning near Windy Point.
A fisherman at a nearby channel reported seeing a Dodge sedan enter the water, Montezuma Fire Chief Ron Schulze said.
Firefighters found the driver, Dulcie McFarland, 49, St. Marys, unconscious inside the submerged vehicle when they arrived at 12:58 a.m., Schulze said this morning.
Firefighters spent six minutes opening a door and pulling McFarland from the vehicle, Schulze said.
Coldwater Emergency Medical Service members transported the victim to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater. She was later transported to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition this morning, hospital spokesperson Melissa Juillerat said.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources personnel are investigating the incident and have not determined the reason why McFarland drove into the water, spokesperson Stephanie Leis said.
The vehicle was removed from the lake by tow truck, Schulze reported.
Celina Fire Department dive team members searched for other possible victims but found none, Schulze said.
Mercer County Sheriff's officers also responded to the scene.
