Merl Brookhart
Winston Merl Brookhart, age 88, of Celina, Ohio passed away at 5:00 am on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio.
He was born May 10, 1929, in Coldwater to the late Lawrence D. and Jennie June (Kerns) Brookhart and on September 9, 1950 he married Marjorie M. (Smith) Brookhart, who survives in Celina.
He is also survived by his children: Stephen (Tracy) Brookhart, Rockford, Scott (Janet) Brookhart, Broomfield, CO, Lisa (Daniel) Davis, Celina, and Stefanie (Terry) Davis, Celina; a sister: Orpha (Roland) Hinton, Celina; three sisters-in-law: Marcieta Brookhart, Celina, Margie Brookhart, Celina, and Eileen Brookhart, Celina; ten grandchildren: Melissa Parish, Convoy, OH, Mandy Brookhart, Celina, Dawn Schnell, Celina, Heather Bragg, Venedocia, OH, Alexander Davis, Celina, Hannah Davis, Celina, Samuel Davis, Celina, Jeremy Stiner, Rockford, Damien Stiner, Rockford, and Tina Stiner, Rockford; 24 great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild.
Preceded in death by a son: Bruce Brookhart; five brothers: Gordon (Lee) Brookhart, Dane (Betty) Brookhart, Leon Brookhart, Rex Brookhart, and Bryce Brookhart; and a sister: Emily (Tom) Osterholt.
Merl was a 1947 graduate of Coldwater High School. He retired from Rock Island Refinery after 47 years of service and went on to work part-time for many years at Lake Contracting in Celina.
He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Celina, and a life member of the NRA. He was a past member of the Mercer County Sportsman Club, Celina.
Merl was very active in his church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was registered with Boy Scouts of America for 72 years, this was something he was very proud of. Merl was very handy at work and at home, he enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, camping and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation hours will be from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday morning at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Overman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Buck Cemetery in Celina.
