Donald Hinckley
Donald "Don" Ray Hinckley, 63, of St. Marys, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, October 28, 2017, at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
He was born October 13, 1954, in Clarksburg, W.Va., the son of Donald P. Hinckley and Sarah (Butcher) Spohn. He married Deborah (Pugh) on July 9, 1983, in Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, son Donald Ross (Elizabeth) of St. Marys; daughter Danielle of Oxford, Ohio; and grandchildren Colton and Presley Hinckley, both of St. Marys. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Shirley (Stan) York of Mechanicsburg, Pa., father-in-law John Pugh of Port Clinton, Ohio; siblings Robert Hinckley and Lisa Bradford, both of Columbus; nephew Chris (Dawn) Hinckley of Westerville, Ohio; great-niece Lillian Hinckley and great-nephew Griffin Hinckley, both of Westerville; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Donald P. Hinckley and Sarah Spohn, his stepfather Jerry Spohn, and his granddaughter Myrlis Hinckley.
He was a graduate of Northland High School (Class of 1972). He was a salesman for Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits for 15 years after working for Big Bear Stores for 32 years. For more than 10 years, he enjoyed announcing Roughrider sports including football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, and volleyball. He was also an assistant athletic director for St. Marys City Schools.
He was an active member of the St. Marys Rotary Club for 23 years, serving many leadership roles during that time including secretary for 14 years, treasurer, and past president. He also held leadership roles for Rotary District 6600 and Rotary within the state of Ohio.
He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds, the St. Marys Roughriders, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, 210 N. Wayne St., St. Marys, Ohio, with Pastor William Maki officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Ohio.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Rd., St. Marys, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Don Hinckley Memorial Fund made payable to the St. Marys Community Foundation, 146 E. Spring St., St. Marys, Ohio 45885, to be used for the Roughrider Athletic Complex or to the Nursing Staff and Patient Education Fund (302203) at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, 660 Ackerman Rd., P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218.
