Sylvester Guggenbiller
Sylvester H. "Ves" Guggenbiller, 86, Fort Recovery, Ohio, died February 13, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, IN.
He was born June 1, 1931, in Wendelin, OH, to the late Vincent and Cecilia (McFarland) Guggenbiller. On May 6, 1958, he married Alice (Barga) Guggenbiller, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Jerry (Marilyn) Guggenbiller of Fort Recovery, Dave (Linda) Guggenbiller of Portland, IN, Deb (Tony) Martyne of Portland, Jim (Pat) Guggenbiller of St. Peter, OH, and Joan (Denny) Heitkamp of Fort Recovery; his sister, Frances Limbert of Dayton, OH; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Corrine Guggenbiller of Union City, IN; and in-laws, Rose Pursley of Kansas City, KS and Robert (Karen) Barga of Greenville, OH.
Preceding him in death are his grandson, Vince Martyne; and his siblings, Clarence (Helen) Guggenbiller, Gertrude (Oscar) Schumacher, Helen Guggenbiller, Werner Guggenbiller, Tony (Mary) Guggenbiller, and Hilda (Ed) Benanzer.
He retired from the former Body Company, Union City, IN as a quality control inspector after 30 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 345, Fort Recovery. He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, OH, was member of the church's Men's Society and sang in the church choir.
Sylvester was one of the original members of the Thien Snipps group which performed music at local functions and charity events. "Ves" loved being outdoors, and enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, and mushroom and hickory nut hunting. He also enjoyed horses, cards and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, Ohio, Fr. Matthew Feist officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Ohio.
Calling is 2:00 pm-8:00 pm Thursday and 9:00 am-9:45 am Friday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion, Fort Recovery.
